Students and staff of Kingscourt Youthreach ran, jogged and walked their way through a 5K mixture of tarmac, gravel, trail and dirt paths at Halton Park, Cootehill. The centre kicked off their new health and fitness plans in the New Year. Training began in early January and continued right up until the Easter Break in April. The students completed a 6 week health and fitness training programme with Carrick Fitness Centre and 10 weeks couch to 5K training with their co-ordinator Michael Murphy.
The couch to 5K event on 20th April was very successful, both in sponsorship and creating awareness for the centre and the invaluable work of SOSAD. Everyone was very generous with their sponsorship and a massive €780.00 was raised for SOSAD Carrickmacross. It is always a very rewarding experience to get involved in a charity event and even more so when it is for such a worthy charity. The students have also benefited by learning more about mental and physical health and having an enjoyable exercise goal. It was a great effort from all students and teachers alike and Kingscourt Youthreach hope to continue with our healthy ethos into the future!
